Sentient Futures works toward a world where the wellbeing of all sentient beings is considered, whether they're animals, digital minds, or other forms of artificial sentience. Sentience doesn't require intelligence, and as emerging technologies reshape what's possible, the range of beings whose welfare matters is expanding. Our community brings together researchers, advocates, and practitioners working at the intersection of AI, animal welfare, and the long-term future.

🌱 Slack Community Support

Help keep our 1,500+ member Slack community thriving.

💬 Slack Volunteer (ad hoc)

Support the community as needs come up. This could mean welcoming new members, helping surface relevant conversations, connecting people across channels, or pitching in on other community tasks. We reach out when something specific comes up.

🔗 Community Connectors (~1-5 hours/week)

Link community members with opportunities, connect people who should know each other, and reach out to organizations about roles and programs that might benefit our members.

🎉 Events & Conferences

We host summits and gatherings throughout the year in locations like the Bay Area, London, and NYC. Event volunteers help with:

• Day-of logistics 📋

Time commitment varies by event (typically 4-8 hours per event). We'll reach out when events are coming up in your region.

🔎 Research Support

Support research on topics like artificial sentience, AI's impact on farmed and wild animals, interspecies communication, and s-risks. Research assistants help with literature reviews, data analysis, summarizing findings, or other tasks depending on background and availability.

💼 Programs & Operations

We run fellowships, mentorship programs, and in-person residency programs, and occasionally need support with operations, coordination, and administrative tasks. If you're interested in behind-the-scenes work, let us know.

📰 Newsletter

Our newsletter keeps the community informed about developments at the frontier of AI and animal welfare, artificial sentience, and the future of nonhuman wellbeing. There may be ways to help with curation, formatting, or editing.
